The transdisciplinary research group "How is Artificial Intelligence Changing Science? Research in the Era of Learning Algorithms" began its work in 2019, respectively 2022, to investigate how different disciplines use AI as both a tool and as an epistemic entity within larger (post)digital infrastructures. The project combines expertise from media studies, the history of science, and computer science to critically examine the potential and limitations, risks, and ambivalences of research utilizing AI-based methods. We observe how heterogeneous concepts and operations from the social sciences and humanities, on one hand, and the natural and technical sciences, on the other, are integrated into AI applications. The final conference AI in Research: Predictive Practices takes a close look at the “doing, crafting, and toiling of scientists” (Heyman et al. 2017, 22) and seeks to capture realistic shifts with a focus on current European research projects. Specifically, we ask: How do AI-enhanced methodologies play out in forecasting, modeling, and pattern recognition? 

Die Beiträge dieser Ausgabe fragen danach, wie sich Filmgeschichte und Filmwissen abseits institutioneller Archivierung im digitalen Alltag vermittelt. Dabei nehmen sie sich diverser Formen und Formate (Reaction-Videos, Meme-Templates, Makeover-Videos, Video-Commentaries), Plattformen (TikTok, YouTube) und Praktiken (Rezensieren/Ranting, Memeing, Scrapbooking, Historisieren/Kanonisieren) an, die tradierte,vordigitale Formen des filmkulturellen Austauschs neu- oder weiterdenken.

Seit Beginn des Wintersemesters 2025/26 ist das analoge Schwarz-Weiß-Fotolabor wieder zur selbständigen Nutzung geöffnet. Im Labor könnt ihr: Schwarz-Weiß-Filme entwickeln, Fotogramme erstellen und Abzüge eurer Negative anfertigen. Vorraussetzung zur Nutzung des Labors ist die Teilnahme an zwei Einführungsterminen.
